Mary E. “Nan” Lewis
Mary E. “Nan” Lewis, 97, of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford. Born in Manheim, she was the daughter of the late Warren M. and Edith E. Witmyer Demmy. She was the loving wife of the late Clement E. Lewis who died in June of 1987. In 1982 Mary retired from the former Donegal Industries where she worked as a seamstress for over 15 years; previously she was employed at the former Noggles Garment Factory, Manheim. She was an active and faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Manheim, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and assisted at Bible school. Mary volunteered at the Nearly New Shop and the Manheim Community Library. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles, baking, cooking, and was an avid reader. Mary had a life-long passion for her family, she was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
Surviving are three sons: William D. husband of Susan Wade Lewis of Lancaster, Barry E. husband of Susan Gubish Lewis of Columbia, Evan E. husband of Deb Wayne Lewis of Pequea, eight grandchildren: Robin, Mark, Michelle, Angie, Kyle, Courtney, Kenneth, Ashlyn, two step grandsons: Matt, Greg, fourteen great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, and a sister, Delores V. wife of William Paulsen of Manheim. Preceding her in death are a grandson, Dustin Lewis, a daughter-in-law, Josie Lewis, two sisters, Grace Sensenderfer, Martha Knight, a half- brother, Malcom Shaeffer, and four brothers: Harold, Lloyd, Clayton, Robert Demmy.
The Lewis family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Long Home, the Long Community at Highland, and Ware Presbyterian Village for the compassionate care given to Mary during her residence.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary’s funeral service at the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 48 Market Square, Manheim, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Tuesday evening from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Interment will be private in Manheim Fairview Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
