Mary Ann Shaw, 93, West Chester, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday May 13, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas John Shaw who died in 1989, and they shared 37 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia she was the daughter of the late Brent and Marion (Myers) Boyer.
Mary Ann graduated from Ursinus College, Collegeville PA, where she met and married her husband Thomas John Shaw. She was dedicated to early childhood education. She taught Pre-K, kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades for over 30 years. “Mrs. Shaw” is remembered fondly by many of her former students. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal Church, West Chester, for over 35 years. She taught at the Holy Trinity Day School, was a member of the Altar Guild and the Trinity Stitcher’s.
Mary Ann’s passions were her family, listening to talk radio, and knitting. She spent many hours knitting baby blankets and caps for her church and local hospitals. Mary Ann’s family would like to thank the staff of the 4th floor cardiology unit of Chester County Hospital for the fantastic care received during her stay there, and also a special thanks to Peg Glessner for her kindness and care of Mary Ann.
Surviving are two daughters, Sally Ann Shaw, New York, NY; Susan Margaret wife of Kevin Gahan, Timonium MD; three granddaughters, Mary Caitlin Gahan, Margaret Shea Gahan, and Keegan Paige Gahan. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Jane Boyer Brown, and brother in-law Wallace Brown.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at Church of the Holy Trinity, 212 S. High St., West Chester, PA on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 12:00 noon. A private graveside ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Church of the Holy Trinity 212 S.
