Martha M. Stoner, 99, formerly of 72 North Main Street, Manheim, where she lived for 75 years, passed away into the arms of her Savior on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Lititz, she was the daughter of the late Menno and Katie Miller Carpenter. Martha was the loving wife of the late Harvey N. Stoner who died in December of 1993. She worked many years as the custodian for Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim, and the former Manheim National Bank. For more than fifty years Martha was an active and faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church where she volunteered in the Sunday school and cradle roll programs. She was a member of the Stiegel Roses Senior Citizen’s Group Manheim, and the Manheim Historical Society. Martha enjoyed family genealogy, and had a passion for yard work around her home especially her ivy that she would trim to perfection.
Surviving are three sons: Menno R. husband of Betty Lou Myers Stoner of Annville, Douglas M. husband of Linda Schaeffer Stoner, Samuel S. Stoner husband of Terry, all of Manheim, a daughter, Betty J. wife of David L. Will of Manheim, 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death is a son, the Reverend H. Rodney Stoner, a sister, Ruth Koser, and a brother, Earl Carpenter.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Martha’s funeral service at the Salem United Methodist Church, 140 North Penn Street, Manheim, on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM. There will be a viewing in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Thursday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing on Friday morning at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
