Martha Landis Hess, 86, of Brethren Village Lancaster, and formerly of Strasburg, died peacefully at the Lancaster General Hospital on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Born in West Lampeter Township, she was the daughter of the late Andrew G. and Bertha Myers Landis. Martha worked as an accounting clerk for WGAL Radio and Television for thirteen years retiring in 1976. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Hess who died in 2004, and her first husband the late Clyde J. Garner who died in 1956. Martha was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Strasburg, and graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School. Her interests included: reading, playing bingo, needle work, fishing, flower and vegetable gardening, and snowmobiling. She had a life- long passion for her family, and she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving is a daughter Linda wife of Stan Graver, of Wellsboro, a son, Larry husband of Ginger Garner of Millville, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three brothers: Stephen Landis of Ocala, FL, Samuel Landis of York, Mark Landis of Myerstown, and a sister, Elizabeth Witmer of Myerstown. Preceding her in death are two brothers, Daniel and Andrew Landis Jr., and two sisters, Magdelena Miller and Esther Landis.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Martha’s funeral service at Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the Chapel on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Martha’s memory to Brethren Village Good Samaritan Fund, 3001 Lititz Pike, P.O. Box 5093, Lancaster, PA 17606.
