Martha B. Widders
Martha B. Widders, 94, died peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz. Born in Farmersville, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Anna Mary Buchen Herr. A homemaker, she was the loving wife of the late Isaac S. Widders who died in June of 1994. Martha was a member of Erb Mennonite Church, Lititz, was active with the sewing circle; and completed many sewing projects for the Mennonite Central Committee. She volunteered in her early years for the Lancaster General Hospital through the Red Cross and was known as one of their “Gray Ladies” at the hospital. Throughout her life Martha loved to memorize bible scripture and poetry. Martha’s interests included: crocheting, reading, cross word puzzles, spending time at the family cabin in Perry County and keeping a diary for more than 50 years.
Surviving is a son, James O. husband of Judith A. Longenecker Widders of Lititz, a daughter, Phoebe J. wife of John W. Good of Lancaster, seven grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren. Preceding her in death are two brothers: Benjamin and Aaron Herr, and a sister, Ruth Denlinger.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Martha’ s funeral service at the Landis Homes Retirement Community, WEST BETHANY CHAPEL, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 7:30 PM. There will be a viewing at WEST BETHANY CHAPEL on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Hammer Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Elizabeth Township.
