Maribel Garber Kraybill

Maribel Garber Kraybill, bornSept 23, 1924 in Elizabethtown went to be with her Lord on March 22, 2010 at Landis Homes, Lititz. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Martin R. and Suie G. Kraybill. She is survived by sister, Jean K., wife of Norman G. Shenk, Mt Joy, two brothers, Simon P., husband of Mary Jean Sherer Kraybill, Landis Homes and Nevin M., husband of Barbara A. Keener Kraybill, East Earl, 17 nieces and nephews. Siblings Arlene and Wilmer preceded her in death.
Maribel lived in Witmer, Pa. until 2003 when she moved to Landis Homes. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1942. Maribel taught Elementary School in Alabama for three years from 1949-1952. She graduated from EMC, Harrisonburg, Va. in 1958 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. Maribel received a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Temple University in 1963. She was recipient of the "1977 Alumnus of the Year" Eastern Mennonite College, in recognition of her having made a significant contribution in her profession, her church and her community. Maribel was Principal of Locust Grove Elementary School from 1955-1987. She was Director at The Mennonite Information Center from 1988-1998. Maribel was a member of East Chestnut St. Mennonite Church, Lancaster, where she served asSuperintendent of the Sunday School. She traveled extensively in Africa, Europe and she taught English as a second language for six summers at several universities in China including North Western University in Shenyang.
A memorial service will be held at Landis Homes, West Bethany Chapel, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 3:00 pm. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm prior to the service. Interment in Bossler Mennonite Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Maribels memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, Pa. 17604-4125 or Locust Grove Mennonite School, 2257 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, PA. 17602.
