Marianne S. Coover, 79, of Mount Joy, died peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Longwood Manor, Maytown. She was the loving wife of Joseph F. Coover and they would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on February 18, 2015. Born in Mount Joy, she was the daughter of the late Burle and Anna (Alexander) Schofield. She was a graduate of the former Mount Joy High School class of 1953. Marianne was a long time member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church of Mount Joy where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a leader of the children’s Sunday school department. Marianne was a very generous and giving individual of her time and money to various projects that were close to her heart. Her passion was tennis so as an avid tennis player every summer she held clinics and gave free lessons to Mount Joy children. She also gave swimming lessons in the family pool to hundreds of children each summer with all monetary donations going to local nonprofits and volunteered for I.U 13 in Lancaster County for more than 20 years, but her favorite project was the Lancaster City Homeless Student Project of which she supported along with the help of her family and friends for 20 years.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter Kerry Jo wife of Bob Meyers of Mount Joy; two grandchildren Ashley wife of Michael Zell, Brandon husband of Angie Meyers; four great grandchildren Meg & Aidyn Zell, Jordin & Addison Meyers; "adopted" grandson Frank Dehaven of Mount Joy; two brothers Ronald Schofield of Lancaster, Terry husband of Donna Schofield of San Bernardino, CA; and a son Joseph Dale Coover of Mount Joy. She was predeceased by her sister Shirley "Tutter" Hilton.
The family would like to thank the staff of Longwood Manor Personal and Memory Care and also Hospice Compassionate Care for taking such wonderful care of our wife, mother and grandmother over this past month.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to her Celebration of Life Service, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 27 E Main St., Mount Joy, (please use main entrance at rear of church) on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 4:00 P.M. There will be a time of visitation on Tuesday at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 W. Main St., Mount Joy from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and also on Wednesday at the church from 2:30 pm – until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
