Marian Susan Rowe passed away peacefully on February 3, 2016 at Brethren Village, where she resided for the past 30 years. She lived in skilled nursing the past several years where she received excellent care and loved her caregivers. She was 102 years old. Born in Strasburg on June 4, 1913, Marian was the daughter of the late Ross Denlinger Rowe and Frances E. Book Rowe. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Harold Rowe. She is the last of her family.
Marian was employed as an executive secretary at UGI for 26 years. She graduated from Strasburg High School as valedictorian in 1931. Marian taught Good News club; she taught Bible School and Sunday school at Strasburg Mennonite Church and lastly taught the Beginners class at Calvary Church for 26 years. Marian was a member of Calvary Church, Lancaster.
Marian was born and lived in Strasburg for 72 years. She loved all things pink, and was always positive as she aged and was always concerned that her friends and acquaintances know Jesus. She learned to drive when she was 67 years old and drove her red Falcon until she was 92. She and her friends formed the Readers Hour Book Club which met monthly for more than 70 years. Marian was a former member of Strasburg Senior Citizens and Farm Women #14.
Services celebrating Marian’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday morning in the Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
Interment will be at Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery beside her parents. In lieu of flowers; contributions in Marian’s memory can be sent to the Brethren Village Good Samaritan Fund, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606.
