Margaret Murphy, 79, of Lancaster, died Monday August 4, 2014 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness. Margaret was the wife of the late James L. Murphy who died unexpectedly in October 2013. Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Matilda (Mostorcova) Gariola. Margaret was a longtime member of St. Anne Catholic Church of Lancaster. She was a homemaker who also held several part-time positions. Margaret enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, traveling with her husband and family, as well as spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving Margaret are four children, Lee Ann Gregg (Jeff) of Lawrenceville, GA, James L. Murphy (Jane) of Lancaster, Maura Kirchner (Donald) of Scranton, Christina Shackleford (David) of Paoli; nine grandchildren; and a brother Joseph Gariola (Dolores) of Bronx, NY.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster PA on Thursday August 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Norman C. Hohenwarter, Jr. as Celebrant. There will be a public viewing on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim PA from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. There will also be a time of visitation with the family on Thursday at the Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Final Commendation and Farewell in St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery will be private. In Lieu of flowers contributions in Margaret’s memory may be sent to St. Anne Catholic School, 929 N.
