Mae M. Ruhl, 82, formerly of Cider Press Road, Manheim, died peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Penn Township, she was the daughter of the late Elwood B. and Ellen Maurer Bradley. Mae was the loving wife of the late J. Robert Ruhl Sr. who died in February of 2002. In her early years she was employed as a sewing machine operator at the Former Noggles Garment Factory in Manheim; later she worked at the Mount Hope Church Home, and the former Evans Restaurant, all of Manheim. Mae was an active and faithful member of Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, Manheim; where she participated with the church sewing circle making caps, small quilts, blankets, and hats for mission projects as well as helping with Christian ministries in the Lancaster County area. She loved gardening both flower and vegetable; and would enjoy canning every year. Mae had a life-long passion for people, with a loving and caring spirit that reached out to friends, family, and everyone she met. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were special to her throughout her life.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda M. wife of James E. Engle Sr. of Quentin, a son, Jay Robert Jr. husband of Shirley A. Smith Ruhl of Manheim, a son, Glenn H. husband of Cheryl E. Shelly Ruhl of Lititz, a daughter, Peggy Ann wife of Clayton Gromling of Manheim, a son, Charles E. husband of Gail Susan Achey Ruhl of Manheim, a son, Dennis R. husband of Anne S. Boyer Ruhl of Ephrata, 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and two sisters: Irene wife of Jacob Sentz of Manheim, and Anna Mary Burkholder of Jonestown. Preceding her in death is a brother, Elwood R. Bradley.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mae’s funeral service at the Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Monday evening from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM with additional viewing at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
