Mae Irene Sloan, 80 of Manheim, died Monday, August 8, 2011 following a brief illness at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lititz, she was the daughter of the late James and Eva Haldeman Weachter. Mae worked in the Deli Department for the former Kreider's Family Restaurant Store Manheim and also served as a school crossing guard for Manheim Borough; previously she was employed by the former RCA Corporation and Schick Corporation both located in Lancaster. Mae was the wife of the late Joseph E. Sloan who died in September of 1992. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church Manheim. Mae was also a member of the Manheim Historical Society, and a long time member of the Rabbit Hillers Travel Club of Rothsville. Throughout her life she loved taking care of her pets. She had a special passion for her grandsons and enjoyed spending time with them. Surviving are two daughters: Deborah A. Sloan of Lancaster, Dianna S. wife of Kirk Barrett of Millersville, two grandsons: Trevor and Seth Barrett, four brothers: Richard Weachter of Biloxi, Ms., Robert husband of Mary Alice Weachter of Manassas, VA., William husband of Shirley Weachter, Kenneth husband of Roberta Weachter all of Lebanon, and a sister, Betty O'Connell of Manheim. Preceding her in death is a sister, Violet Weachter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jeffrey C. Schell officiating. Interment is in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
