Surrounded by love, Mae B. Rickert, 91, of Elizabethtown and formerly of Milton, PA, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Born in Milton, she was the daughter of the late George and Rosa Griffin Barto. She was married for 72 years to the love of her life, Carroll Rickert, who died in 2017.
Mae loved anything associated with accounting and math and had worked as an accounting clerk at the former Sunoco Products and Chef Boyardee in Milton. Her love for God was a guiding influence in her life that she shared with her family. She was a member of Sell Chapel at the Masonic Village and a former member of St. Paul’s UMC in Elizabethtown and St Andrew’s UMC in Milton where she had volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and youth leader.
Mae loved her family and taught them to look for beauty and the best in everyone, to find contentment, to love God, and that the best things in life are often free… love for one another, picnics, games, 1000 piece puzzles, watching birds and animals at her feeders, teaching her granddaughters to watch the stars come out at night, gardening, ice cream cones, storytelling, music, and hugs. She loved cross stitching, traveling, and cooking and made the best apple dumplings in PA! Most of all, Mae enjoyed spending time with her family. She was their greatest encourager and cheerleader. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Bupp (Allen) and Jan Cooper (Bruce); granddaughters, Megan Smith and Linell Patterson (Daniel); step granddaughters, Shauna DeLong (Christopher) and Jordan Bupp; step great grandchildren Kendall, Cameron, and Kinsley. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenley James Rickert; sisters, Rosa and Helen McCormick and brothers, Ben, George, and Lee Barto.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at Sell Chapel, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery, Milton, on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Mae’s memory to the Arline M. Hughes Caring Endowment Fund at the Masonic Village (Office of Gift Panning, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022).
