Mae A. Summers, 87, of Manheim, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 19, 2011 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Manheim, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Lizzie Wunderlich Weber. In 1984 Mae retired from the Manheim Central School District where she was the secretary for the Middle School for 25 years. She was the loving wife of Ralph G. Summers and they observed their 64th wedding anniversary in June of last year. A lifetime active member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ Manheim; Mae served her church faithfully and passionately. Her church activity included: serving on the church consistory as both Elder and Deacon, church secretary for ten years, superintendent of the Sunday School department, choir member for twenty years, coordinator of the adult Sunday School and helped with the Nursery, and Jr. High programs, member of womens fellowship, Kappa Nu Class and sewing circle of the church. In a quiet way Mae was the church ambassador greeting visitors at the church during Sunday services and introducing them to other members. Maes other memberships included: the Manheim Historical Society, Stiegel Roses Senior Citizens Group, Manheim, Sunrise-Sunset Camp Club in Ephrata; she volunteered for Meals on- Wheels for the Manheim area and the Nearly-Nu Thrift Shop Manheim. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ and was a member of the Four Ss singing group.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Kenneth E. husband of Karen A. Summers of Manheim, a daughter, Aldine M. Deenie wife of Edgar J. Bergeron of Manheim, and a grandson Matthew Bergeron. Preceding her in death is a sister, Ruth E. Brubaker. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim, on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 10:30 AM with Pastor R. Eugene Hill officiating. Interment will be in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery Rapho Township. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
