Mabel L. Kreider, 84, formerly of Manheim, died peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Adam N. and Martha W. Lausch Hackman. A homemaker, Mabel was the loving wife of the late Elvin N. Kreider who died in June of 2006. She was a faithful and active member of East Petersburg Mennonite Church where she served as organist, pianist, Sunday school teacher, wedding coordinator, and former sewing circle president. She was an expert seamstress and privately worked in her home making clothing for the former Hager's Department Store in Lancaster for the plain clothing department. Her life was filled volunteering for her church and many local organizations where she was the dining room manager for Black Rock Retreat in Kirkwood, and the manager of the Gift and Thrift Shop in Mount Joy. Mabel was an accomplished Pianist and Organist at East Petersburg Mennonite Church and Pleasant View Retirement Community. She played for many local weddings and funerals over the years. The arts were also important to her throughout her life; she was a self taught artist, painting in water color and oils where she was known for her still life paintings as well as nature scenes of birds and flowers. She served as president of the Heintzelman Art Association, Manheim and enjoyed participating and attending art shows in the local area. Her interests included: traveling to the family cabin in Potter County, spending winters in Sarasota, Florida, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, crafts, and needlework. Surviving are three sons: Kenneth L. husband of Violet Weaver Kreider, of Manheim, Ronald E. husband of Jo-Ann Smith Kreider of Palmyra, James E. husband of Linda Kready Kreider of Manheim, a daughter, Carol Ann wife of Burnell L. Buchen of Lititz, 15 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death is a sister Helen June Miller. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Pleasant View Retirement Community for their warm and loving care. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at the East Petersburg Mennonite Church 6279 Main Street, East Petersburg on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a viewing in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM with additional viewing on Thursday evening at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. There will also be a viewing at the East Petersburg Mennonite Church on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM.
