M. Gary Hess, 75, of Reinholds, died peacefully on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Hospice of Lancaster County. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Mahlon S. and Ruth Martzall Hess. Gary retired in 2000 after working over 38 years as a cabinet maker for Foltz and Fridy Custom Kitchens, Lancaster. He was the loving husband of Joanne L. Diether Colon Hess and they observed 38 years of life together. Gary served 3 years in the U.S. Army Infantry, 2nd Armored Division, and was stationed in Germany. A NASCAR fan, Gary enjoyed rooting for his favorite driver Carl Edwards. He loved scouting in his early years and was a member of Boy Scout Troup 33 in East Petersburg where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a past member of the Boots and Saddles Club and was an excellent horseman. Gary had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He would spend most of his time maintaining the family farm, cutting wood, feeding his fish in his farm pond and observing wildlife. Surviving in addition to his wife; is a stepdaughter, Michelle Colon companion of Eric Hurst of Reamstown, and a step granddaughter, Heather. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Chiques Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Rapho Township. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
