Luke K. Peters, 80, of Manheim, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Hospice of Lancaster County Mount Joy. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Willis R. and Alice Kready Peters. Luke worked for Longenecker's Hatchery Inc. Elizabethtown; previously he was employed for the former Musser's Hatchery in Mount Joy. He was the loving husband of Lois Brubaker Peters and they would have observed their 58th wedding anniversary in February of this year. Luke was a very faithful, active and committed member of Manheim Mennonite Church and helped operate the sound system and many projects at the church. He had a passion for vegetable gardening and growing fruit trees and had an expert knowledge of gardening. Luke operated a 13 acre hobby farm in Rapho Township, he also volunteered as a 4-H Leader working with youth in vegetable gardening and raising strawberries. His interests included: making cider, butchering, bar-b-q chicken, and talking to people. Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters: Karen P. wife of Carl S. Mentzer of Manheim, Joanne wife of Timothy O'Connell of Singapore, Irene B. wife of Steven Villanueva of Lebanon, Audrey B. wife of Timothy S. Winters of Elizabethtown, seven grandchildren, two brothers: John K. husband of Orpha Peters of Manheim, Raymond K. husband of Becky Peters of Elizabethtown, and a sister, Ruth wife of Allen Zendt of Mifflintown. Preceding him in death is a brother, Paul K. Peters, and three sisters: Anna K. Peters, Esther K. Miller and Lois K. Peters. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the Manheim Mennonite Church 201 West High Street, Manheim on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Interment will be in East Fairview Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Rapho Township. There will be a viewing on Friday evening at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM with additional viewing at the church on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
