Lorene G. Smeltzer

Lorene G. Smeltzer, 77, died surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, after an acute respiratory illness. 

Born September 11, 1947 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Isaac M. Brubaker and Ruth J. Royer. The 4th of 6 children, she is survived by 2 sisters, Ann Johnson, of Austin, TX, and Karen Minnich, of Lititz, PA.

Lorene was a devoted mother, survived by John O. Smeltzer of Portland, Oregon, and Matthew B. Smeltzer currently residing in Bogota, Colombia - as well as 4 grandchildren Chelsea, Søren, Olive, and Ruth. When not raising her children, she was employed in various caregiving roles, graduating as an LPN in February of 1968. She struggled with mental health issues for most of her life, but had significant periods of respite. She enjoyed traveling when she was younger, highlights being Europe and South America. Lorene was a consistent diarist, and she enjoyed reading, movies, and music, including playing piano. She has been a Member of the Latter Day Saints since April 1976. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to NAMI. 

The family prefers to forgo any formal memorial services.
