Lillian D. MacTaggart, 96, of Manheim, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Hopeland, she was the daughter of the late Ammon E. and Tillie Mae Enck Palm. Lillian worked at the former William H. Noggel & Son and retired from the former Manheim Garment Company after 35 years. She was a life member of Hopeland United Methodist Church. During her early years at the church she helped her father who was the sexton and care taker of the cemetery and would hold a lantern while he dug the graves. During World War II she volunteered with the War effort. Lillian became an active member of Jerusalem Church, Penryn. She was a former Girl Scout leader of a Manheim troop which had the largest and most active group of girls together in a troop at one time. She was a member of Stiegel Roses Senior Citizens, enjoyed traveling, and loved to walk 4 miles per day even when she was in her 80’s.
Surviving are two daughters, Esta V. Ritter of Sparks, Nevada, Nellie E. wife of Jon P. Fike of Lancaster, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Preceding her in death is a sister, Elsie Mae Palm and a son-in-law, Dr. Dale F. Ritter.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at Jerusalem Church, 1620 Newport Road, Manheim (In the village of Penryn) on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
