Lester U. Weidman, 91, of Manheim died peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Elmer B. and Amanda N. Ulrich Weidman. He was the loving husband of the late Catherine Ober Weidman, who passed away in 2002. Lester was the owner and operator of his own farm in Rapho Township, and also worked for PennDOT for 21 years. He was a member of United Zion Church, and attended Ruhl’s United Methodist Church all of Manheim. Lester also was a member of the Manheim Sportsmen’s Association and the National Rifle Association. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and spending time at the family cabin called “ Sporting Hill Rod and Gun Club” in Lycoming County. Throughout the years he enjoyed listening to Bluegrass and Gospel music.
Surviving is a daughter, Dorothy F. wife of David L. Denlinger of Ephrata, two sons: Lester O. husband of LaVonne J. Snyder Weidman, and Kenneth C. husband of Lisa M. Knier Weidman all of Manheim, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, and a brother, Herb Weidman of Manheim. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Kathryn Elaine Dubbs, three sisters: Edna, Dorothy, Esther, and three brothers: Harvey, Leroy, and Harold.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lester’s funeral service at the Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at Ruhl’s United Methodist Church on Thursday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
