Lester Snavely

July 18, 1935 — May 15, 2017

Lester “Les” Snavely, 81, of Lititz, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2017 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Florin, he was the son of the late Monroe and Martha Brubaker Snavely. He was a member of Brunnerville United Methodist Church. At the age of 15 years, Les worked for Elwood Martin of Mount Joy as a “Bob-Taylor” for Penn Dairy, delivering milk products door to door in the Mount Joy area till 1961. Les was employed by Graybill’s Dairy of Lititz, for 31 years as a door to door delivery milk man; later he drove tractor trailer for a wholesale route and also Summers had a route at Wengert’s Dairy now Swiss Milk of Lebanon. Les received his 25 year watch from his manager Ken Martin of Graybill’s Dairy on November 27, 1992.

A very active bowler throughout his life, Les was a member of the American Bowling Association; and was actively bowling at Clearview Lanes of Mount Joy, Monday P.M. Men’s League till 2010, Manheim Lanes, Tues, P.M. League till 2014, Men’s Traveling League, Wed. P.M. till 2001; and both state and local tournaments.

Each week Les enjoyed golfing with his companions, Mon. Tues., Wed., and golfing all over PA golf courses and out of state weekend trips until March 2006. On July 23, 2001 at 11:00 P.M. he golfed at Fairbanks Alaska Country Club, as far north as you can go, and he received a certificate from the golf club; what an honor. Being a blood donor, over his lifetime Les had donated over 10 gallons of blood at St. Joe’s Hospital, Lancaster.

Les was a passionate motorcycle rider and a life member of the American Motorcycle Association, a member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club in Feb. 2013, a 30 year pin was given, a member of Happy Pappy Cycle Club, with breakfast each Tues. A.M. at Evergreen Restaurant, Ephrata. Les helped with many cycle rallies, tours on his Gold Wing. He would ride in the middle of the pack, yes, and at times when he would he get lost, his companion Jane S. Connelly with whom he made his home for 43 years was always by his side. In 1983 Jane and Les had toured all U.S. and Canada on their Gold Wing. They experienced a three week trip of over 10,000 miles to see and do so much of what the Good Lord has created and placed on this Good Earth for us to enjoy. Both he and Jane did.

Les was a member and helper of the Brickerville Leisure Hours Senior Citizen Club for 18 years.

As Les leaves this earth he leaves a loving companion Jane S. Bradley Connelly of Lititz. Preceding him in death a sister, Verna Mae Snavely, who died March 9, 2009, a brother, Harold B. Snavely who died May 3, 2001, and a sister, Thelma B. Shelly who died January 31, 2005.
