Lester R. "Les" Alleman

Lester R. “Les” Alleman, 84, of Manheim, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at ManorCare, Lebanon following a four month illness. Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Harry S. and Mabel Ruhl Alleman. He was the loving husband of Mildred A. Hoffman Alleman and they observed their 64th wedding anniversary in May of this year. For 37 years, Les was the owner and operator of the former Alleman’s Plumbing and Heating, Manheim, and through his company provided well drilling and home construction services. Les proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, Manheim. Les held memberships at the Lititz and Manheim VFW, the Navy Club of Lebanon, and he also held lifetime memberships in the Elstonville Sportsman’s Association, the Germania Band Club, and the Mastersonville Fire Company. His interests included hunting, camping, and boating at Raystown Lake, and he enjoyed spending time at the cabin he built at the lake, as well as at his grandson’s farm in Tioga County. He and Mildred also enjoyed traveling in their motor home. Les had a lifetime passion for his family and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife Mildred are two daughters, Marilyn K., wife of Rickie Hartranft, Lynn K., wife of Todd Hollinger, a son, Marlin J., husband of Kay Evans Alleman, all of Manheim, four grandchildren, Travis Hartranft, husband of Denise, Tammy Martin, wife of Ryan, Dylan and Alex Miller, three step grandchildren, Jason, Kendall, Jared Hollinger, two great grandsons, Owen and Austin Hartranft and two great step grandchildren Mya and David. Les is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are seven sisters, Mildred Groff, Mabel Greiner, Alverta Kissinger, Irene Groff, Ethel Miller, Elaine Sweigart, Patricia Crigger, and a brother, Clarence Alleman.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:30 AM. There will be a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with additional viewing time on Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Les’ memory to Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
