Lester O. Flory, 83, of Manheim, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, May 30, 2016. Born in Elstonville, he was the son of the late Daniel and Sadie Ober Flory. Lester was the loving husband of D. Elaine Ruhl Flory and they observed their 64th wedding anniversary in December of last year. In 1991 Lester retired as a supervisor for Alumax Mill Products, Lancaster, after working there for over 21 years. Previously, he was the owner and operator of Flory’s Sunoco Gas Station in Manheim. Following retirement he and his wife operated Flory’s Lawn Service for many years. Lester was a member of Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, Manheim, the Manheim Historical Society, Hempfield Farmers and Sportsmen’s Association, Manheim Sportsmen Association, Cocalico Sportsmen’s Association, and the NRA. He was a former member of the Manheim Lions Club, and the Lancaster Elks Lodge. Lester had a passion for the outdoors; he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and boating. The family enjoyed trips to Shelly Island and boating activities and water skiing on the Susquehanna River. Lester loved golfing and playing his guitar for family events.
Surviving in addition to his wife Elaine, are four daughters: Linda wife of James Kenderdine, Julia wife of Steven Tevis, Gloria Flory, Brenda Campbell all of Manheim, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great great grandsons, two brothers: Raymond husband of Janet Flory of Manheim, Homer Flory of Greenville, GA., and two sisters: Pauline wife of David Kready of Mesa, AZ., Joyce wife of Bruce Hershey of Manheim, and a sister-in-law, Kay Flory of Lebanon. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Annette Flory, a grandson, Jeremy Weaver, a sister, Helen Flory, and two brothers: Robert and Roy Flory.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lester’s funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10:30 AM. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery, Manheim.
