Lester C. Shank, 96, formerly of Harrisonburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz. Born in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Clinton and Edith Rutherford Shank. He was the loving husband of the late Araminta Lehman Shank who died in 2004. Retired in 1976, Lester worked in various administrative positions at Eastern Mennonite University, Virginia for 31 years. He spent four years in Zambia, Africa under Mennonite Central Committee and served on missions in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Lester received his Master's Degree from Boston University and he was a charter member of Park View Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, Virginia. He also served on many church boards and committees throughout his life. His interests included gardening, playing the piano and caning chairs. He loved the outdoors, especially going to the mountains. Lester also enjoyed traveling and camping throughout 49 States. Surviving is a son, Norman E. husband of Luci Mumaw Shank of Mechanicsburg, four daughters, Esther wife of Jonathan Bucher of Morinville, Alberta, Canada, Mary wife of Ernest Swartz of Portland, Oregon, Miriam wife of Jesus Cruz of Lancaster, Ruthi wife of Kenneth Blackman of Roanoke, Virginia, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachael Cruz, two brothers, Earl and Paul Shank and a sister, Gladys Shank. The family would like to thank the staff of Homeview and Oregon House, Landis Homes, for their loving support and excellent care. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at Landis Homes Retirement Community, WEST BETHANY CHAPEL, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Weaver's Mennonite Church Cemetery, Harrisonburg, Virginia. Friends may visit with the family at West Bethany Chapel on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Please omit flowers.
