Leon W. Spangler
May 24, 1930 — July 20, 2017
Leon W. Spangler, 87, Leola (formerly of Lititz) got his wish to join those who are sitting at the feet of His Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 20th. Leon passed into glory, after a period of declining health from Parkinson’s disease.
Leon was born on May 24, 1930 in Berks County to Albert W. and Edith May (Donkel) Spangler. He was married to Sheva (Boyd) Spangler for over 56 years before her death in April, 2006.
In his early years, Leon worked for the Middletown Air Depot. He then worked for RCA/Burle Industries for 39 years before his retirement in 1992. Leon graduated from Lancaster Bible College Evening Institute in 1974. He enjoyed going on bus trips and flying model airplanes as a member of Cocalico Prop Busters. Leon and his wife were long-time members of Calvary Church in Lancaster, and he served in various capacities at the church including Sunday school teacher, deacon and audio technician.
Surviving are two sons: Steven (Deborah) Spangler, Leola, with whom he resided, and David (Shirley) Spangler, Ephrata, ten grandchildren: William & Robert Stone, Rebecca Coleman, Amanda Nichols, Carl , Adam, Daniel, Andrew, Amber & Melody Spangler, seven great-grandchildren: Evelyn Spangler, Lydia, Logan, Layne, & Liannah Nichols, Katherine & Jonathan Coleman and two step great-grandsons: Nicholas & Dylan Stone, and two brothers: Dale & Larry Spangler. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Linda Stone, a son, Leon Spangler, two brothers: Raymond and Mark Spangler and a sister, Irene Paul.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Hospice & Community Care for their guidance as well as Ronda and Joan of “By Your Side Home Care” for their loving care in Leon’s final days.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Leon’s memorial service at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 4:00 PM (Please use the EAST ENTRANCE) of the church. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private in the Brunnerville United Methodist Cemetery. Please omit flowers; contributions in Leon’s memory may be made to Calvary Church 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 17601
