LaVerne S. Haas, 85, of Manheim, died peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Mennonite Home. Born in Bareville, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey K. and Viola Eurich Steffy. LaVerne was the loving wife of John C. “Jack” Haas, and they observed their 63rd wedding anniversary in October of this year. For many years Laverne worked for Fenner Drives, Manheim; previously she was employed at Hamilton Watch, Lancaster. LaVerne was an active and faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Manheim, where in her early years she helped teach Sunday school. She grew up in a musical family, with her father a music teacher and accomplished singer; LaVerne and her sisters were known for singing Gospel Songs in four-part harmony. Her interests included gardening, puzzles of all types, and spending time with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband Jack are two sons: J. Craig husband of Jennifer Haas of Mount Joy, Eric R. husband of Diana Haas of Palmetto, FL., three grandchildren: Lydia, Ethan, and Noah Haas, two brothers: Aubrey husband of Irene Steffy of Ephrata, Lee husband of Laurie Steffy of Akron, and a sister, Lyndell wife of Robert McMullen of Lititz. Preceding her in death is a son, Brent R. Haas, and three sisters: Lorraine Steffy, Loretta Cook, and Lois Nauman.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend LaVerne’s funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 10:30 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will be in Manheim Fairview Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
