Kim D. Schatz (Pop or Pop Pop), 65, of Bainbridge, died unexpectedly from complications following what appeared to be a successful series of radiation and chemotherapy treatments for cancer in his throat on December 21, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital.
Kim was the loving husband of Kathy (Gutshall) Schatz. They celebrated 46 years of marriage this past August. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Russell and Katherine (Campbell) Schatz. He was predeceased by his brother Charles (Chuck) Schatz, Bainbridge. Surviving in addition to his wife Kathy are two sons, Joshua Schatz, Downingtown, Chad Schatz husband of Amanda, Middletown; four grandchildren: Skyler, Wylie, Gwyneth and Cayden Schatz; and two brothers: Todd Schatz husband of Karen, Columbia, and Terry Schatz husband of Cheryl, Mount Joy and sister in law Karen Schatz wife of Chuck.
Kim worked in the maintenance department at Wyeth Labs, Marietta for 29 years. He was tough and stubborn. He never apologized for being who he was or pretended to be someone he was not. He told you how he saw things with little or no filter. Kim believed in hard work and was, until very recently, able to outwork most people regardless of their age. He didn’t believe in throwing things out when they broke. Instead he’d fix them. He could fix almost anything and had the patience to do so. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed time afield. Kim was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Conewago Rod & Gun Club.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 398 N. Locust St. Elizabethtown on Wednesday January 9, 2019 at 6:00 PM.
