Kenneth E. “Gene” Miller, of Lancaster, formerly of Fruitville Pike, Manheim passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Homestead Village, Lancaster. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Jacob and Katie Geib Miller. He was the loving husband of Joyce A. Will Miller and they observed their 61st wedding anniversary in October of the last year. Gene retired as senior vice-president and cashier at the former Manheim National Bank and Farmer’s First Bank, Manheim. He was also an associate for EM Murry Auctions Inc., Lititz for many years and tax collector for Penn Township from 1954 to 1981. Gene was an active and faithful member of Community Bible Church, Marietta where he served on the building finance committee, church council and treasurer and he was a Sunday school leader. He was a corporation member and finance committee member of Lancaster Bible College and former treasurer of the Manheim Farm Show. Gene was a member of the Manheim Historical Society and he served as past Master for Manheim Lodge #587 F&AM. Gene had a Christmas tree farm in the northern part of the state and sold the trees locally. He was a graduate of Manheim High School in 1945, Reppert School of Auctioneering in 1964 and he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Gene enjoyed hunting at his cabin in Tioga County and he loved to spend time with his family in Perry County. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers baseball fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Joan L. wife of Dr. Joseph P. Zaepfel of Lancaster, a son, Gregory D. husband of Jennifer Yingst Miller of Smethport, three granddaughters, Rebecca Durling, Rachel and Hannah Darrah, seven great grandchildren and a brother, Pat husband of Janet Miller of Manheim. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jay C. and Robert B. Miller.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Community Bible Church, 331 Anderson Ferry Road, Marietta on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 10:30 AM. Interment in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Sunday evening from
6:30 PM – 7:30 PM with additional viewing at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Ken’s memory to Community Bible Church, Memorial Fund, 331 Anderson Ferry Road, Marietta, PA 17547.
