Kathryn V. Shelly, 90, of Manheim, and formerly of Penryn, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Penryn, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus G. and Katie Smith Dohner. Kathryn was the loving wife of Eugene F. “Gene” Shelly and they observed their 73rd wedding anniversary in December of last year. For over 35 years Kathryn worked for R.C.A. which later became General Electric, in Lancaster. She was an active and faithful member of the Lititz Church of the Brethren, and was a member of the Rose of Sharon Sunday school class. Throughout the years Kathryn was a devoted member of the Penryn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and volunteered countless hours cooking and serving meals at the fire hall. She was awarded the honorary title of Mrs. Fire Chief by the Penryn Fire Company. Kathryn and Gene were also members of the Rambling Roses Camping Club. Her interests included: reading, crocheting, and camping. Kathryn adored her family and had a life-long passion to be involved in and blessed by the life and activities of her children and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband Gene, are two sons: Barry husband of Sandra Shelly of Manheim, Randal husband of Romona Shelly of Lititz, a daughter, Kathy wife Richard Keller of Landisburg, a son-in-law, Daniel Ambler of Manheim, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. Preceding her in death is a daughter, Bonnie S. Ambler. Kathryn was the last of eleven children.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Kathryn’s service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM. There will be a viewing in the Hoffer Auditorium on Saturday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with additional viewing time on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will be private in Graybill’s Brethren Cemetery.
