Judith A. "Judy" Smith

Judith A. “Judy” Smith, 63, formerly of Manheim (Penryn) passed away peacefully among family into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus at the Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Manheim on August 10, 2017. Judy was born on December 31, 1953 in Bellefonte, and was the daughter of Lois Hoy Miller and the late Robert L. Miller.

Surviving are her husband of 40 years Richard D. Smith, a daughter, Heidi Smith, Elizabethtown and a son Bradley, married to Julie Swain, Odenton, MD. She is also survived by a brother, Kenneth married to Joan Volsko Miller, State College, sisters, Cindy married to Kim Kunes, Howard, PA, Beth Miller, Riverside, CA and Wendy Miller, Enola, PA. She graduated from Bald Eagle Area High School, Wingate, PA in 1971 and earned a BS degree in Biology and a MS degree in Entomology from Penn State University. In addition to being a homemaker, Judy was self- employed for most of her working years. As an entomologist, she participated in insect related research studies in both Maryland and Lancaster County. She had the gift of flower arranging, enjoyed reading and arts and crafts. She was very active in 4H as a youth and continued that interest as an adult as a 4H leader in Entomology. Her last work experience was as a greenhouse crop consultant. A member of the Manheim Grace Brethren Church she was active in several ministries including youth and children. She was a leader in the church AWANA ministry for twenty years.

Hope Nazarene Retirement Community and Hospice and Community Care.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at Manheim Grace Brethren Church, 333 East High Street, Manheim on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jeffrey L. Dunkle officiating. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and again at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment in Advent Cemetery, Milesburg, Centre County on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Flowers are welcomed.
