Joyce G. Hershey, 79, of Lancaster, died peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Homestead Village Retirement Community. Born in Big Spring, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth Horst Clugston. Joyce was the loving wife of Donald C. Hershey and they observed their 60th wedding anniversary in June of this year. For 53 years Joyce was the Corporate Secretary for the Hershey Equipment Company, Lancaster. With experience in Interior Design Joyce was the owner and operator of Gehman’s Furniture, Mount Joy from 1990 to 2000.
Joyce had a life-long passion for ministry, and was a leader of Stone Croft Ministries during the 1970’s and 80’s which focused on Women’s Ministry nationally. Joyce and her husband Don along with others helped to start LCBC ministries in their home as a way to reach out to others in helping to share the love of Christ. Joyce is a partner with LCBC and served on the board for Lancaster Bible College. Joyce could fill up a room with her engaging personality; people were drawn to her because of her kind spirit of always wanting to help others. She truly had a servant’s heart and provided hope and joy to so many friends and to strangers alike. Joyce was adored by her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Surviving in addition to her husband Don, are two daughters: Doreen L. wife of Michael D. Dickson, of Marietta, Donita L. wife of Pastor Dwayne E. Carson of Lewis Center, OH., six grandchildren: Bradley M. Dickson, Jeffrey D. husband of Laurin Dickson, Kristen A. wife of Josh Peterson, Kaitlyn A. Carson, Kirk A. Carson, Klayton A. Carson, and two sisters: Miriam wife of Jacob Ober of Conestoga, E. Ruth wife of Galen Miller of Lancaster. Preceding her in death is a son, Daryl L. Hershey, and three brothers: Paul, Merle, and Leon Clugston.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joyce’s Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at LCBC Church, Manheim Campus, 2392 Mount Joy Road, Manheim, on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 4:00 PM, please use the South Auditorium Entrance. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Monday afternoon from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Joyce’s memory to LCBC Outreach, 2392 Mount Joy Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
