Joshua Heller

April 13, 1936 — November 15, 2023

Mount JOy

Joshua Heller, 87, of Mount Joy, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late William and Edna Hess Heller. Joshua was the loving husband of Wilma M. (Mostert) Heller.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Mark husband of Pam Heller of Manheim, Seth husband of Deb Heller of Bainbridge, NY, a daughter, Lisa Heller of Mount Joy, six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

A lifelong farmer Josh was fully immersed in all the ways of farm life including diligence about farm chores that always had to be done. He grew up on a Delaware river-flat farm located between Bushkill and Dingmans Ferry.  The Flood of ‘55 gave him the opportunity to meet his future wife, Wilma. In his early years, along with Wilma he ran a dairy farm, milking a 30+ head of Holstein cows. After 10 years in the dairy business, he transitioned into a grain farm raising over 500 acres of field corn. Along with that he also raised white-face cattle and had a winter-season slaughtering and butcher business.  When farm life did not interfere, he enjoyed hunting and fishing . . .especially for a nice trout dinner.
Always looking at other opportunities he explored many different options in farming and eventually settled on fruits and vegetables with a picked-fresh daily produce business and a pick-your-own strawberry business.  That enterprise encompassed over 160 acres and employed three families!

In his later years he retired to an 80-acre farm that he and Wilma purchased in Bainbridge, New York and enjoyed raising Christmas trees, field corn, soybeans and enough vegetables to feed his family and to give to good friends.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
