Josephine “ Josie” Ellis, 86, of Mount Joy, died Friday June 6, 2014 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries of Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. “Josie” as she was affectionately called, was the wife of the late Lee E. Ellis who died in 2009. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Alice (Kling) Shank. Josie was a former executive secretary at Mount Joy Wire Corp. before retiring. As an active Mount Joy resident Josie was crowned “May Queen” of the Mount Joy High School, was the secretary of Mount Joy Business Professional Women’s Club, and was part of history when she was elected along with two other women to lead the Mount Joy Community Council. Also, Josie ran on the Democratic ticket seeking the nomination for the office of Mayor of Mount Joy in 1973. Josie was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Mount Joy and was active with its altar guild. Her other interests included traveling with her husband to different golfing destinations with friends.
Surviving is a son Lane, husband of Jean H. Ellis of Mount Joy; a daughter Jolene Harper and her companion Earl of Gibsonia; three grandchildren Nicolas Ellis (Katie), Eddie Lee Harper, Erin Harper; three brothers Robert Shank, Leo Shank both of Mount Joy, David Wiker of York; and a sister Fran Miller of Lititz. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother Lloyd Shank.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 W. Main St. Mount Joy, on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in Mount Joy Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation with the family on Tuesday at Buch Funeral Home from 10 A.M. until the time of the service. After the interment, everyone is invited to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for a light lunch and fellowship.
