Joseph G. Kontra

Joseph G. Kontra of Mount Joy died peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Pleasant View Communities in Manheim, PA. He was the loving husband of A. Theresa (Cabot) Kontra. Born in Norristown, he was the son of the late Andrew and Anna (Kopen) Kontra. He proudly served his country in the USMC as a fighter plane mechanic during the Korean War. Joe worked as Properties Manager for the Manor Company of Lancaster prior to his retirement. His hobby interests included building and flying ultra-light aircraft, drawing, archery, and hang gliding. Joe also held a private pilot license.

  Surviving him, in addition to his wife Theresa, are Joseph M. Kontra MD (wife Eileen) of Lancaster, Kenneth R. Kontra (Elaina) of Lititz, and Kevin S. Kontra (Bryna) of Lititz. Joe is survived by seven grandchildren: Carly, Andrew, Ashley (Cassie), Justin (Kim), Hillary (Matt), Kevin, and Hannah, as well as two great-grandchildren: Shiloh and Tobin. He is also preceded in death by granddaughter Holly Lynn.

  Military burial services for Joe will be held at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, and will be a small private ceremony.
