John W. Myers, 93 of East Petersburg, went home to be with his Lord following a brief illness on Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in East Petersburg, he was the son of the late William U. and Ella Burkett Myers. For over 55 years John was a self employed painting and paper hanging contractor. He also was an instructor for one year at the Brownstown Vo-Tech School. Following his first retirement at age 72 he continued working for the Manheim Auto Auction for an additional 20 years and retired a second time at the age of 92. John was the loving husband of the late Ellen V. Pyle Myers who died in November of 2006. Through the years he and his wife sponsored three children through Christian Children's Fund. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church East Petersburg. John's interests included hunting, fishing and working on leather crafts. John had a life-long passion for horses and he was known for his ability and love of working with the many Arabian horses he owned. Surviving are two daughters, Cindy L. wife of Dennis W. Andrew of Manheim, Cheryl D. wife of Paul H. Vaughn of Willow Street; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim on Tuesday morning October 18, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township.
