John M. Shronk, 91, of Manheim, formerly of Berwick, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2011 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Abington, he was the son of the late John M. and Marian Ridpath Shronk. He was the husband of Shirley Warrington Shronk and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February of this year. Retired in 1980, John worked in logistics and was the chief scheduler for Sun Oil Company, Philadelphia. He graduated from Abington High School in 1938 and Pierce Jr. College, Philadelphia in 1940. John proudly served in the United States Navy during WW II in Intelligence at both Cape May and Hawaii where he received honorary medals and ribbons. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church of Manheim and he served in his earlier years as a Deacon at the Abington Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and Berwick Kiwanis Club. His interests included nature, hooking rugs, stamp and coin collecting. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Judith S. wife of Jack R. Briner of Lititz, Ruth S. wife of Steven G. Bishop of Chapel Hill, NC, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Shronk. The Shronk family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Pleasant View Retirement Community for their years of fine care. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Hoffer Auditorium, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jeffrey L. Dunkle officiating. Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be a public viewing at Hoffer Auditorium on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
