John Leroy Buffenmyer, 78, of Mount Joy, died Monday January 2, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late John S. and Lillian (Hottenstein) Buffenmyer. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Deaven) Buffenmyer who died in 2001. "Leroy" as he was known, had worked for his father and eventually served the community as owner of the John S. Buffenmyer Company in Mount Joy for his entire working life. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends to the New Holland area every Saturday to meet and greet the Amish while picking up supplies for his business. Leroy was a graduate of the former East Donegal High School, class of 1951. He was a member of Florin Church of the Brethren in Mount Joy, and was active with his church's bowling team in the Clearview Lanes Bowling League, and was a former treasurer for the bowling league. His other interests included model trains, billiards, card games, going to musical concerts, and was well known for riding his bike around town with his dog on the back seat. Surviving is a son Kenneth L. husband of Kathleen (Schnupp) Buffenmyer of Mount Joy; two grandchildren Kyle and Kelsey Buffenmyer; a brother Jay Ralph husband of Carolyn Buffenmyer of Palmyra; a nephew Vinton Buffenmyer and a niece Jennifer Bove. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Nancy Ann. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service, at the Florin Church of the Brethren, 815 Bruce Avenue, Mount Joy, PA on Saturday February 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. A time of visitation will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial in West Green Tree Brethren Cemetery will be private.
