John K. Hershey, 93, of Manheim, died peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Penn Township, he was the son of the late Graybill and Orpha Kulp Hershey. John was the loving husband of Reba Hernley Hershey and they observed their 67th wedding anniversary in March of last year. In 1982 John retired from the former J. W. Nauman Company where he worked as a truck driver for 20 years, previously he drove truck for Binkley and Ober Inc., East Petersburg, and started as an independent truck driver in his early years. Following retirement he was employed at the Manheim Auto Auction for 15 years. John was a member of the White Oak Church of the Brethren Manheim, and served the church throughout the years as Sunday school treasurer, usher, youth counselor, and in Lay Renewal Ministries. Earlier in his life John served as a trustee for the Manheim Brethren Church. John also volunteered at the International Work Camp in Germany in 1954. His interests included: woodcrafts, vegetable and flower gardening, and raising all types of trees.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two brothers: Jacob K. husband of Verna Kreider Hershey of Lititz, and Daniel K. husband of Joretta Hubley Hershey of Manheim. Preceding him in death is a brother Caleb K. Hershey.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the White Oak Church of the Brethren 1211 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in Graybills Brethren Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers.
