John E. Greenly, 95, of Manheim, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late John C. and Barbara A. Ebersole Greenly. John was the husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Geib Greenly who died in January of 2003. He was employed as a mechanic and truck driver, last working for Roman Mosaic & Tile Company Manheim. John served in the United States Army during World War II and was involved in military campaigns and battles of the Normandy Invasion, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. John’s interests included: hunting, going to the mountains, camping, taking long drives in his car, and working on his small farm. He had a passion for his family and enjoyed doing activities with them. He loved Blue Grass and Gospel Music and spent many hours listening to his favorite songs. “Uncle Johnnie” was known as a humble and gentle person.
Surviving are three daughters: Phoebe M. Mummau of Ephrata, Judy G. wife of Allen Neifert, Betsy G. wife of Joseph Bryson Jr. all of Manheim, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are 3 grandchildren, 5 brothers: Noah, David, Paul, Harold,and Galen Greenly, 3 sisters: Grace Geltmacher, Mary Enterline, and Ruth Greenly.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John’s funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery, Rapho Township. There will be a viewing on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
