Joan Lucille Hassinger

January 26, 1931 — September 3, 2016

Joan Lucille Knittle Hassinger, 85 of Mount Joy passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 3, 2016 surrounded by her family. Born January 26, 1931 in Pottsville she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Helen Schaeffer Knittle. She was the loving wife of the late Frank Hassinger, who died in 2015 and they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in 2014.
Joan and her husband and son Steve owned and operated Video Vision Theater and KIS one hour photo in Mount Joy. Previously, she was co-owner and designer for the former Hassinger Ceramic Mold Company in Mount Joy. Joan graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School in 1948 and from the Ford Business School in Pottsville, PA. She was a Teller at First National Bank of Mount Joy and a bookkeeper for the Alcoa Aluminum Company of Cressona. She was a long time member of the Mount Joy Church of God and a member of the Mount Joy Historical Society. She had a passion for collecting old photos and history of Mount Joy. She researched and traced family history in some cases as far back as 1687. She was the recipient of several awards for her artwork and her instructional articles were published in numerous national books and magazines. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, her dogs and spending time with her family. Their home was always filled with the love of the lord, the love of each other and the love of family.

Surviving are her two children, Joni E. wife of Mahlon Lund and Steve D. husband of Susan Hassinger, both of Mount Joy, five grandchildren Laura, Cynthia, Jennifer, Christopher, Abigail, a great granddaughter Savannah and her beloved dog Lady. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Helen Rushton and Carolyn Schaffer.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service celebrating Joan’s life at the Mount Joy Church of God, 30 East Main Street, Mount Joy, Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 11:00am. Interment in Mount Joy Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 West Main Street, Mount Joy, on Tuesday evening from 6:00pm – 8:00pm and again at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00am until the time of service.
