Jere A. Miller, 87, of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in East Petersburg, he was the son of the late Monroe and Charlotte Andes Miller. Jere was the loving husband of Lorraine “Rainy” Graybill Miller who died in December of 2013. He was a well-known owner and operator of a successful residential building company. Throughout the years Jere developed and constructed many homes and neighborhoods in the Manheim area. Before retiring, he worked as a realtor. In his early years he was a store clerk at the former Alpert’s Department Store, Manheim; he then started in the building industry as an apprentice, mixing mud for plastering and construction companies. Jere had been a member of East Fairview Church of the Brethren, Manheim, and the Manheim Rotary Club. He enjoyed golfing throughout the years with his buddies. He had a life-long passion for travel and taking long drives to destinations both near and far. Any place that had beautiful warm sunny weather he wanted to experience.
Surviving is a son, Steven E. Miller, companion of Nancy Zentner of Mercersburg, a daughter, Claudia M. wife of Mark P. Will of Manheim, two grandsons: Derek and Austin, five brothers: Jim husband of Jean Miller, Rick husband of Sandra “Sam” Miller, Vaughn Miller companion of Vicki Lowe, Sidney Miller, Gary Miller all of Manheim, four sisters: Betty wife of Bill Weirsma of Lititz, Nancy wife of Bill Shenberger, Rosalie Miller, Carol wife of Nevin Garner all of Manheim. Preceding him in death are three brothers: Jack, Terry Lee, and Dougie Miller.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jere’s memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
