Jean D. Zug, 88 of Manheim, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Eglon WV, she was the daughter of the late Homer Samuel and Loretta Valentine Fike Diehl. Jean grew up in Hummelstown, graduated from Hershey High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Elizabethtown College. She was a resident of Manheim from marriage until the time of her death. Jean was the loving wife of the late Robert “Bob” Buch Zug who died in July of 2012 following almost 53 years of marriage.
Upon graduating from Elizabethtown College, Jean taught at Farmdale Elementary School. After her children were in school, she became a substitute teacher in various school districts throughout Lancaster County. She later taught at Lititz Christian School. She also worked part-time at Myer’s Furniture Store in Manheim. Jean was an active and faithful member of East Fairview Church of the Brethren, Manheim; where she taught Sunday school, and Vacation Bible School when her children were young. Jean was involved with Released Time Education in the Manheim Central School District for many years. An avid baseball watcher, Jean and Bob never missed their son's baseball games.
Jean enjoyed designing and finishing the many woodworking projects that Bob built over the years both for others and at their own home. Jean also lovingly made apple sauce and canned peaches grown in their backyard orchard. She was an avid seamstress, sewing clothing, curtains, and a wedding gown, and enjoyed various handicrafts, such as knitting, throughout her life.
Surviving is a son, Darrell Zug of Manheim, a daughter, Deborah, wife of Dr. Henry David Rosenfeld of Drumore; and a granddaughter Emily Jean Miriam Rosenfeld of Reamstown, four sisters: Margaret Oellig, currently of Americas, GA, Millie Light of Hershey, Fern Swope and Jill Clemens, wife of John Breidenstine, both of Palmyra.
