Jean S. Miller, 92, of Lititz, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Brethren Village Retirement Community. Born in Manheim, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Sara Shank. She was a graduate of the Manheim High School Class of 1944, and enjoyed many class reunions with her classmates throughout the years. Jean was the loving wife of the late Jay C. Miller, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage before his passing in 2002.
Jean worked 35 years as a public notary at the Manheim Auto Auction and several years at the Garden Spot Auto auction.
Jean loved the Lord and was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster. Before her decline in health she served there in many ways from volunteering in the nursery, serving on the kitchen committee and her favorite service of keeping the “Missionary Closet” well stocked. She enjoyed shopping for bargains to stock the closet so that any visiting missionary could choose several new and usually badly needed treasures.
In her earlier years she enjoyed reading, biking around her beloved Manheim, flower gardening, knitting, and crocheting. Jean and Jay spent many summer evenings entertaining neighbors on the front porch with either home-made lemonade, home-made ice cream or a freshly baked cake or pie.
Jean is survived by her three children: Gary husband of Linda Miller of Xenia, OH., Timothy husband of Carol Miller of Carlisle, and Barbara Miller of Manheim. She is also survived by two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a sister, Nancy “Nan” Gibble of Manheim. Preceding her in death is a brother, Tom Shank, and two sisters: Margaret and Joyce Shank.
The family would like to thank the 4th floor Terrace Crossing Staff, and the Brook Place South Staff at Brethren Village along with the Pink Team from Hospice and Community Care for the care and compassion they showed our mother.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jean’s funeral service at the Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster, 1899 Marietta Ave. Lancaster, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing on Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Manheim Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Jean’s memory to: Hospice and Community Care, P. O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125. T
