Jean I. Anders

October 8, 1933 — March 6, 2024

Manheim

Jean I. Anders, 90, of Manheim, flew into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, while residing at Ephrata Manor.  Born in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Mary Martin Lehman. She was the loving wife of Harlan A. Anders for the past 20 years.

Jean was a member of Rossmere Mennonite Church, Lancaster. It was important to her to be a dedicated wife and mother, and most of all, to be a child of God. After raising her children, she studied to become an LPN.

Jean also enjoyed working at Ephrata Breathing Services, where she delivered ventilators to both local and long-distance hospitals.  She was a woman with a servant’s heart and truly enjoyed the time she spent volunteering for Mennonite Disaster Service. She cooked many meals for other volunteers during her 20 years of service in 19 different states. Being adventurous, Jean loved traveling. This took her to all 50 states, as well as Africa and Europe! Putting puzzles together, reading, playing games and having company, topped the list of things she enjoyed most in her later years.

Surviving in addition to her loving husband, Harlan, are five children whom she loved dearly. Stephen A. (Shelly) Hampton of Dover DE, Ruby R. (Carl) Denlinger of Ephrata, Betty L. (Charles) Harsh of Lititz, Timothy S. (Christine) Hampton of Walkersville, MD, Julie B. (Jason) Tobery of Frederick, MD. Six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a sister, Cora Lehman of Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by four siblings: Martha Frey, M. Eleonora Martin-Brenneman, Lewis, and Jay Lehman.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jean’s Memorial Service at Manheim Brethren in Christ Church, 54 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM. There will be a time of visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Jean’s memory to Mennonite Disaster Service, 583 Airport Rd., Lititz, PA 17543.
