Jay Robert Schaeffer

Jay Robert Schaeffer, 74, of Manheim, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 22, 2018 at his residence. Born in Sunbury, he was the son of the late Ralph F. and Cora Beatrice (Brubaker) Schaeffer. Jay was a farmer most of his working life in E. Donegal Twp., but also sold crop insurance for Crop & Hail Management, was a custodian for Ebersole Honda of Lebanon, and worked for the PA Dept. of Agriculture. Jay was a proud member of the U.S. Army. Jay was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Manheim where he was an official board member, current trustee, and a mission’s board member. Jay loved collecting toy John Deere tractors, making walking sticks and canes, and enjoyed woodworking and leathermaking. He was a member of the Waterloo Boys 2-Cylinder Club, Paradise, and a member of the Lancaster County Cane Club.

Surviving are two sons Dean L. husband of Michelle (Myers) Schaeffer, Manheim, Eric M. husband of Salamatou (Sahirou Kiabeye) Schaeffer, Tulsa OK; two grandchildren Carrie Alyssa and Alexander James Schaeffer; a brother Raymond husband of Vergie Schaeffer, Glendale AZ; and three sisters Joyce wife of Richard Turner, Madisonville TN, Gloria wife of Kenneth Turner, Manheim, and Faye wife of Charles Hoover, Lancaster. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother James and an infant sister Janice.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 48 Market Square, Manheim on Thursday November 29, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private. There will be a time a visitation with the family on Thursday at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jay’s memory may be sent to Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church.
