Jay Homer Groff, 79, of Manheim, died peacefully on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Jonas B. and Edith Ebersole Groff. He was the loving husband of Doris A. Snader Groff who died in 2006. Homer was a life-long owner and operator of his Livestock Hauling Company in Manheim. He was a member of Newport Church, Elm, where he was a Deacon. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Homer had a love for gardening and working in his yard.
Surviving are five sons: Jay D. Groff, of Lancaster, Rick G. husband of Eva Groff, Tony L. husband of Paula Groff, both of Manheim, Barry E. husband of Kimmberly Groff, of Millersville, Jamie C. husband of Janelle Groff, of Harrisburg, two daughters: Alice M. Geisel, Amy J. wife of Michael E. Smith, both of Manheim, fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two brothers, Clair husband of Marlene Groff, of Palmyra, Harold husband of Lois Groff, of Landisville and a sister, Helen wife of David Habecker, of Newmanstown. Preceding him in death is a sister, Hilda Wenger and a brother, Kenneth Groff.
Funeral services at Newport Church, 656 West Newport Road, Elm, on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 10:30 AM. There will be a viewing on Wednesday evening at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and also on Thursday at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service.
