Jay Earl Nauman, 88, of East Petersburg, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday,, December 4, 2013 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Earl was born in Manheim on February 9, 1925 to Frank W. and Alma I. Nauman. He was the husband of his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Betty Sensenig Nauman. Earl was a faithful long time member of Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim. He was a member of the East Peterburg Historical Society, and a former member of the East Petersburg Lions Club and the East Petersburg Fire Company. Earl served during World War II as a Sergeant Antitank Company 26th Infantry Regiment 1st Infantry Division Army. He participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. He survived that battle but was wounded in the Battle of the Huertgan Forrest. After being hospitalized for five months he was reassigned to the 8th Air Force. He is the recipient of 3 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. After leaving the Army he studied at Thaddeus Stevens Trade School (now Stevens College of Technology) receiving certification in cabinet making, carpentry, and Architectural Drafting. After a short period of running his own building business he was employed as an Architectural Drafter at J.C. Snavely in Landisville and then at J.H. Brubaker in Rohrerstown. He retired in 1992. At various times in his life he enjoyed hiking, bowling, golfing, and gardening.
Surviving in addition to his wife, is a son, J. Douglas husband of Sue Nauman of Severna Park, MD., a daughter, Denise wife of Robert Hopler of North Palm Beach, FL., three granddaughters: Amy Hopler, Sarah Hopler, Lindsey Nauman, a grandson, Jay Nauman, two brothers: Charles husband of Betty Nauman of Manheim, and Wilbur husband of Gloria Nauman of Ephrata. Preceding him in death is a sister, Betty Zimmerman, and a brother, Stanley Nauman.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Salem United Methodist Church, 140 North Penn Street, Manheim, on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
