Jane K. Hoover

Jane Keiffer Hunsecker Hoover, 84, formerly of Landisville passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Oak Leaf Manor Retirement Home, Landisville. Born on December 23, 1927 in Leola, she was the daughter of the late Paul L. and Blanche Hunsecker. She was the wife of the late Joseph L. Hoover who died in 2005. Jane was a 1945 graduate of the former Upper Leacock High School, and a 1949 graduate of West Chester University. Jane retired in 1987 from the Elizabethtown High School having taught 38 years in the health and physical education department and was the field hockey coach for 33 years and tennis coach for 24 years. She had much respect and devotion for all the students she taught. Jane was the first woman recipient of the Lancaster Sportswriters and Sportscasters George W. Kirchner Memorial Award in 1988. In September of 2001, the Elizabethtown School District and the Big E Booster Club dedicated the hockey field in her name in recognition of her untiring dedicated service. Jane was a member of Chiques United Methodist Church, Mount Joy and a former member of the Leola United Methodist Church. She was a charter member and past president of the Hempfield Woman's Club from 1967-1969. Jane was a former member of the Elizabethtown Business and Professional Women's Club, and was the recipient of the BPW Woman of the Year award in 1964 and 1975. She was a former member of The Hershey-Elizabethtown Soroptimist Club, and the Four Seasons Ladies golf league. Her interests included golfing, bowling, swimming, reading, traveling, playing bridge and pinochle. In her later years, she enjoyed sitting on the bleachers on a beautiful afternoon watching field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, baseball, and football. She is survived by a sister, Mary Ann wife of Donald Brown of Naperville, Illinois, a niece, Ann Louise Hunsecker wife of Ernest Kuenzli of New Holland, two nephews, Steven Brown of Naperville, Illinois and David Brown of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul K. Hunsecker. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at Chiques United Methodist Church, 1215 East Main Street, Mount Joy on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Beverly T. Andrews officiating. Interment in Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery, Leola. There will be a public viewing at the church on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Please omit flowers.
