Jane E. Merkey

Jane E. Merkey, 85, of Manheim, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 25, 2018. Born in Rapho Township, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Grace Haldeman Hoffer. Jane was the loving wife of Mark H. Merkey and they would have observed their 63rd wedding anniversary in March of this year. For many years Jane helped her husband on the family farm. She attended Mount Hope United Christian Church, Manheim. Jane and Mark enjoyed having a stand at Green Dragon Farmers Market. Over the years Jane volunteered by playing the piano in three churches. Throughout her life her passion was her family; and she treasured her time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband Mark, are two sons: Ray husband of Angie Merkey, Harold husband of Wendy Merkey all of Manheim, a daughter, Donna Marie wife of John Shenberger of Lititz, eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a sister, Lois wife of Ronald Long of Manheim, three brothers: John husband of Shirley Hoffer of Lancaster, Mark husband of Jonna Hoffer of Manheim, and Nelson Hoffer of Manheim. Preceding her in death is a grandson, Dalton Merkey, two brothers: Clair and Paul Hoffer, and a sister, Nancy Krall.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invite to attend Jane’s memorial service at the Mount Hope United Christian Church, 206 Cider Press Road, Manheim, on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment will be private in Mastersonville Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
