Jacqueline (Jackie) Newcomer, 96, formerly of Mount Joy, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Born in McDowell, KY she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Blanche Hall. Jacqueline was the loving wife of Donal Newcomer, and this past June they celebrated 70 years of marriage. After graduating from Manheim Township in 1940, Jacqueline worked at the former Hamilton Watch Factory until she enlisted in the U S Navy WAVES. She rose to the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class and was given an honorable discharge in November of 1945. After marrying Donal, she became his partner in farming for well over 30 years. During some of that time, she also operated Newcomer’s Greenhouse growing and selling poinsettias and spring annuals. Jacqueline was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Mount Joy where she taught the nursery Sunday school class for many years. After retiring from farming, Jacqueline and Donal enjoyed golfing and wintering in Florida.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Donal, are two sons, Michael F. Newcomer husband of Nancy Jean Newcomer of Lancaster, Jack L. Newcomer husband of Anne Newcomer of Mount Joy, a daughter Suzanne D. Kopp, wife of Edwin Kopp of Manheim, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse and Maxwell Hall.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
