Jacob Harold Longenecker

Jacob Harold “Red” Longenecker, 94, of Manheim, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Mt Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Manheim. Born on September 17, 1929 in Manheim, he was the son of the late Abram and Alice Wunderlich Longenecker. He was the loving husband of the late Ruth C. Wesch Longenecker who passed away in 2004. Harold attended Manheim schools with 12 years of perfect attendance and was involved in high school sports including baseball and basketball. In August of 1946 at the age of 16, he was a sea going cowboy and took 700 horses to Poland. Harold served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany in the 3^rd Armored MPs Division. In 1986, Harold retired from the former Alcoa, Lancaster and worked for the Manheim Central School District for five years. He was the last charter member of Lake View Bible Church, Manheim. Harold was an avid hunter, he also enjoyed spending time with his family and playing the chord organ.

            Surviving is a son, David C. husband of June Allen Longenecker of Manheim, a daughter, Christine M. Tesch fiancée of Stephen Plubell of Clearfield, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a sister, Joyce Smeltzer of Sporting Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Abram Longenecker, Jr., and two sisters, Fern Groff and Janet Flack.

            Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Harold’s Funeral Service at Lake View Bible Church, 383 Lake View Drive, Manheim, on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and also at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment in Manheim Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harold’s memory may be sent to Lake View Bible Church at the above address.
